Dexter Pittman Assigned To D-League’s Skyforce

Dexter Pittman has been assigned to the NBA Development League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, a day after his job looked safe when the Heat decided to cut Jerry Stackhouse instead of a bigman. With the Heat having five centers on their roster after acquiring Erick Dampier, they decided it was time for Big Pit to get some playing time in the D-League so he will one day be ready to contribute to the Heat.

“That’s the whole purpose of me going, to get some game situations up under me,” Pittman told Ethan Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work but it’s not right just to throw me out there with the big guys yet. Even though I’m physically ready. I’ve got to go there and get mentally ready and IQ wise.”

Pittman has worked hard since arriving from the University of Texas. Once ballooning to over 400 pounds, Pittman is now a much leaner version of himself and will certainly benefit from the minutes he’ll see in the D-League since he wasn’t seeing the floor with the Heat.
