Chad Ford of ESPN.com is reporting that the New Jersey Nets are the frontrunners to land current Denver Nugget Carmelo Anthony.
According to Ford, Anthony is willing to accept a trade to the New Jersey Nets as well as negotiate a contract extension with the club. In order to entice the Nuggets, Derrick Favors, the Nets third pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, would be included in a trade to get Anthony. In addition to Favors, the Nets would include the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy (newly acquired from Indiana) and Kris Humphries, as well as a future pick.
This news is quite surprising considering early reports out of New Jersey are that Favors is impressing new head coach Avery Johnson. Perhaps the recent publicity of Favors is an attempt by the Nets to boost Favors worth.
