Recently drafted Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson was arrested in Brooklyn, New York for assaulting his girlfriend. Stephenson allegedly pushed Jasmine Williams down a flight of stairs in a fight early Sunday morning. Williams, the mother of Stephenson’s child, was treated at a hospital for injuries to both her head and neck.
This sounds horrible and is of course bad news for Stephenson who was drafted 40th overall by the Pacers in this year’s draft. He was coming off a very strong summer league performance and looking to be an impact rookie in the upcoming NBA season. Now the Pacers must wait to see what type of suspension, or worse, jail time Stephenson will be facing when this is all said and done.
Stephenson actually fell to the second round in this year’s draft partly due to off-court issues. He had been previously arrested for sexually assaulting a 17 year old girl in 2008 while still in high school. This is looking like it could be a bad pattern for Stephenson and it’s obviously not the type of behavior you want representing your franchise.
