Coming into the 2010 NBA Draft all anyone wanted to talk about regarding DeMarcus Cousins was his issues off the court. The words headcase, trouble, and immature popped up frequently. As we said then, and we’ll say until this website ceases to exist, the “character” issues around players are almost always exaggerated.
It’s funny how quickly things can change. Nowadays, the words associated with Cousins are All-Star, Rookie of the Year, and steal. Obviously his performance in Las Vegas played a large part in this, but off the court it seems like Cousins is more than any fan could hope for. Cousins was recently a special guest at Coach Cal’s ProCamp and when he heard of a fan unable to attend the camp to meet him he stopped the truck taking him to the airport and made a dream come true.
Cousins had no obligation to stop the driver in order to meet with Olivia Prewitt, a 12 year old fan, and her younger brother Jacob, but he did. In fact, he hopped out of the truck, posed for pictures, and even had John Calipari and John Wall come by to meet them as well. We’ve said that Cousins was just a big kid, nothing harmful, and his antics with the Prewitt’s prove it. He told Olivia he’d be back for her on her 18th birthday since she was wearing a “Future Mrs. Cousins” t-shirt.
Obviously it was a day that the Prewitt’s will never forget, and hopefully fans won’t forget it either and will start giving players with “character issues” the benefit of the doubt from now on.

DCousin got the body and the talent that deserve to be number 1 pick in this year draft. Just the motivation and concentration that he wasn’t be able to establish during the game. With 5 players drafted in the first round and the Wild Cats only made it to Elite8 in the NCAA tournament, that was wild in talents but wise enough to deserve the 1st and 5th picks?
I left this message on Vaughtsviews.com. However, I wanted to let the Kings Fans know how special DeMarcus was to the BBN. And I want to thank TC, a Kings Fan for posting on Vaughsviews.com site. We are truly going to miss DeMarcus…
TC, thank you for posting about DeMarcus. You don’t know what a special young man you have on your court. Love him, embrace him, treasure him, and remember he is still a young man. The BBN is going to miss him, just like the rest of the boys. However, DeMarcus really left an empty hole in our hearts. He was just a big old teddy bear. A little boy in a man’s body, misunderstood, still growing and maturing and just looking for love and understanding. Please take good care of him and remember he will always have a home in our hearts. I still get misty eyed thinking he does not belong to us any longer, we only had him for 1 short year but oh what a year it was and the memories will last a lifetime! GO CATS! GO KINGS!
Again, plz be nice to DeMarcus, we love him and would take him back in heartbeat if we could!
Sacramento has scored again. This team will be one to ‘Reke’n with in a season or two.
“He told Olivia he’d be back for her on her 18th birthday since she was wearing a ‘Future Mrs. Cousins’ t-shirt.”
…WTF?
Personally, I think his “headcase” issues are way overstated, but this little incident doesn’t prove anything. Especially since it sounds like a semi-orchestrated PR stunt. And jesus, that’s a creepy joke by Cousins.
Sometimes money can change a person in a positive way.good luck to him.
Oh, well I guess all the Cousin haters were wrong all along. This guy is clearly not a headcase as evidenced by his talking with a couple of young fans.
50/50 he’s a bust? Didn’t look that way at summer league.
If he can keep his conditioning up he’s a contender for ROY.
Man love for Cousins straight up. Nothing wrong with that but lovers have a way of coming back to bite you through denial and more denial stuffing the pain of their failure to live up to your expectations.
Good luck at The Rookie Wall. I give it 50/50 that Cousins is a bust, though I never like to see talent go to waste so I hope he can fulfill his potential, seriously.
