Being a First Team All-American in the past meant a first round selection in that years upcoming NBA Draft. Scottie Reynolds will soon learn that is no longer the case. Reynolds was a McDonald’s All-American and then a four-year starter for the Villanova Wildcats after de-committing from Oklahoma. In his Freshman year “Scooter” averaged 15 points and 4 assists a game on his way to winning Big East Freshman of the Year. He improved his game as a Sophomore, raising his average to 16 per game, and shooting better percentages from the field and from three point range. Last season he led the Wildcats to the Final 4 and was prominently featured in One Shining Moment. After testing the draft process last summer, Reynolds returned to the Main Line to make another run at a National Championship. He certainly gave it his all, putting up 18 points per game and shooting 46% from the field (a dramatic improvement from 40% last season). Unfortunately, Scottie’s career ended in a way very few saw coming, a 2nd round loss to Saint Mary’s.
Looking to the future Scottie no doubt believes he is an NBA player. The sad reality is the NBA isn’t exactly full of shooting guards with suspect handles standing only six foot. His best-case scenario is an Eddie House like role on a contending team, but more and more those spots are going to veterans.
Reynolds signed a man who will do his best to help Scottie reach his dream of playing in the NBA, super-agent Arn Tellem of Wasserman Media Group. Arn’s list of 35 players reads like a who’s who of the league, including: Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Russell Westbrook. One thing you’ll notice about his list is that not a lot of players were “long shots.” It’s curious that Reynolds would pick such a big agent to handle him, considering he’ll need a ton of attention to reach the league.
Take a look at some of Scottie’s best moments and consider yourself lucky for being able to watch one of the best college players of the last ten years, even if you won’t be seeing him in the NBA.

My guess is that Scottie Reynolds picked a big agent for the leverage Arn Tellem could provide for securing workouts with teams and the like. Overall, I think it’s a smart move.
